Not everything that matters can be measured, and not everything that is measured matters.  (V. F. Ridgway, 1956).

But if you can create meaningful measurements of value, you should. Without clear success metrics (KPI’s), it is difficult to track progress or prove value.  To the extent possible, KPIs should be specific, verifiable, and directly linked to the value drivers outlined in your business case.
